The hospital is proposed to come up over an area of 12 acre on the Sultanpur road. It would have a 300 bed intensive care unit (ICU) as well as 30 ultra-modern operation theatres. Medanta Group chairman and heart specialist Dr Naresh Trehan is expected to be present at the foundation laying function.

Dr Trehan said, “We have been supporting the poor patients in Gurugram and we shall do the same here too,” he said.

Dr RK Saran, cardiologist with Medanta, said the efforts would be made to facilitate the BPL patients via insurance at CGHS rates. Giving details of the patients, Dr Trehan said that around 30% patients from UP visit the hospital in New Delhi but travelling and food were big problems for them.

“If a patient from Allahabad or Gorakhpur comes to Lucknow they will probably find some relative. Also, as the food and language are familiar, they will be at an ease,” said Dr Trehan.
